A brand-new Cycling Hub Linmere is opening at The Farmstead from 12 April, to support and promote cycling throughout the region. This exciting facility is open to all generations of cyclists, and would-be cyclists, to build their confidence in riding a bike and their skills in looking after a bike.
The Cycling Hub, a joint venture between Central Beds Council and Dorvics Cycles (Leighton Buzzard), funded by developer contributions from the Linmere Consortium, has taken over a year in planning to deliver the right facility for residents across Houghton Regis, Dunstable and beyond.
The hub will be based in one of the retail units at The Farmstead Linmere, located next to Roam Café and playground, with plenty of free parking. The hub will include a range of excellent facilities and services:
A cycle shop offering bikes, parts clothing and accessories for every rider, of any age
Free advice and general support on starting your cycling journey
Full servicing and repairs for any bike
Workshop training sessions to build your essential servicing skills
Led group rides, for all ages, from The Farmstead
E-bike test rides, sales and servicing
Social events to connect with residents in your area
The hub will offer everything you need to get you on your bike, be it your first or your first for many years, we’ll get you properly set up, trained and confident to live life on two wheels!
On the coming Cycling Hub, Emma Farrier, Linmere Community Marketing Manager commented:
“We’ve been in discussion with Central Beds Council on this project for some time. The Farmstead is ideally located for such a facility, with good riding routes close by and the space and amenities for residents and families to visit, find free parking, enjoy a coffee and come and visit the new hub. The team from Dorvics Cycles couldn’t be better suited to lead the project and bring their experience of everything cycling and knowledge of the area, to help grow cycling across the region.”
Emma Farrier, Linmere Community Marketing, Ashley from Dorvics Cycles and Max Oram from Central Beds Council, outside the new facility.
Cycling Hub project lead Ashley Lewis added:
“Promoting cycling in a region with a fast-growing population, holds benefits for everyone. Better health outcomes, sustainable transport and happier people. Our ambition is not only to see more local cycling in numbers, but nurture new influencers, who go out to encourage their family, friends and colleagues to join us at the hub, build some skills and discover the magic. We’re really looking forward to meeting everyone.”
The Cycling Hub Linmere officially opens from Saturday 12 April, in time for Easter Weekend. We’ll be hosting a number of introduction sessions, including a free Dr Bike servicing clinic and free merchandise for our younger visitors.
Details on our launch day will follow soon.
