ParkPlay is coming to Linmere
A big thank you to all the residents, from in and around Linmere, who joined us on Sunday July 2nd to make ‘Play in the Park’ a real community event. As well as a summer event to bring our residents together, it was a chance to sample ParkPlay in Linmere park. A nationwide active community programme, supported by the Lottery Fund and Sport England, we’re looking to bring ParkPlay to Linmere Park every Saturday morning, from Autumn 2023.
What is ParkPlay?
ParkPlay will be a brilliant community event of 2 hours of free play in Linmere park, for the Linmere community to enjoy a fun, active start to every weekend. The games and activities will be inclusive to all ages and all abilities. It’s about using Linmere park to bring people together to meet, move, make friends and play. Watch the video to hear Rick Jenner, ParkPlay’s founder and CEO, explain what ParkPlay brings to communities.
What difference does ParkPlay make?
Since launching in only 2021, there are now 85 communities running a ParkPlay, every Saturday, in their local community spaces. From research amongst those already participating, 74% have said their weekly family activity has increased. As much as 81% say it’s improved their mental wellbeing and an amazing 99% would recommend it to their friends. It’s safe to say ParkPlay is making a positive difference to a lot of communities.
What will it look like?
For those who attended on July 2nd, you’ll know it’s about people, of all ages, coming together to enjoy games, activity and play. The ParkPlay volunteer team will bring the kit and prepare the space, you only need to bring your enthusiasm, and 2 hours of your time. Remember, this is about fun and movement, and not endurance and fitness. It’s something everyone can look forward to, every Saturday morning.
ParkPlay CEO and founder, Rick Jenner, meets the first ParkPlayers in Linmere.
Whilst we’ll have all the support we need from the central ParkPlay team, we’ll need ParkPlay Makers on the ground, to make it happen at Linmere. If you want to get involved, and help get ParkPlay established, then please use the link below to register your interest. You don’t have to be fully committed every week, just help us bring the team together to share roles and put Linmere on the ParkPlay map!
