Thornhill School and Linmere have launched a Park & Stride Scheme, to encourage pupils and parents to use Linmere’s facilities and connections to encourage active journeys to school. Starting at The Farmstead Car Park, pupils are being encouraged to finish the school journey on foot, bike or scooter, receiving a stamp for their collector card, each time they arrive at the car park. Participants who collect 10 stamps within the next 2 weeks (Monday 16–Friday 27 September) will be entered into a draw to win a prize, courtesy of Central Bedfordshire Council.
To launch the scheme, we recruited Kyra, a Year 5 pupil at Thornhill, to become the ‘ambassador’ for the scheme. Kyra turned out to be quite the superstar, and we thank her and her mother Yvonne for kindly offering their time to contribute to the film.
The hope is we can ‘nudge’ changes in journeying behaviour, to make more sustainable choices. These things take time and encouragement, so we hope some of you get some inspiration from Kyra!
Linmere is designed to be a place for communities that embraces the natural environment, and where all generations can enjoy a great quality of life.
