New Park and Stride Scheme to Thornhill School

Thornhill School and Linmere have launched a new Park & Stride Scheme, to encourage pupils and parents to use Linmere’s facilities and connections to encourage active journeys to school. Starting at The Farmstead Car Park, pupils are being encouraged to finish the school journey on foot, bike or scooter, receiving a stamp for their collector card, each time they arrive at the Farmstead Car Park. Participants who collect 10 stamps by the 15th May, will be entered into a draw to win a prize, courtesy of Linmere Delivery Team.

To launch the new scheme, we recruited Thornhill’s Year 6 head pupils, Millie and Noah, to become the ‘ambassadors’ for the scheme. Mille and Noah took starring roles in the Park & Stride video (below), delivering very convincing performances!

Emma Farrier, Linmere Community Marketing Manager commented:

“Changing the school drop-off routine does require making more time for your journey, to and from school. However, the route from The Farmstead to Thornhill School takes a matter of minutes and is mostly free of motorised traffic. The journey also helps pupils get energised for the day, especially if the weather’s good. The hope is we can ‘nudge’ changes in journeying behaviour, to take the time and make use of the sustainable journey links, through Linmere. The scheme’s just started and we’re already seeing families arriving at ROAM cafe, each morning, to collect their stamps. So far, the response has been encouraging.”

To launch the scheme, the Linmere Delivery Team attended Thornhill School Assembly, to present the video and distribute collector cards, assisted by Central Bedfordshire Council’s sustainability champion, Freddie the Fresh Air Frog, who created quite the impact!

Freddie entertains the team from Thornhill School.

We thank all our Thornhill Park & Striders for taking part in the scheme and helping us realise the ambition for more sustainable journeys around Linmere.
