The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch at Linmere
Linmere is supporting the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch on January 27–29, encouraging Linmere residents to play their part in helping the RSPB build a vital picture of our birdlife, across the country.
A new pilot bike hire scheme has launched at Linmere. App-Bike is an app based, self-ride cycle hire scheme, offering residents access to a low-cost sustainable transport option with users being able to choose from a pay as you go tariff, with hire available at £1.50 per hour or a £5 monthly membership, offering two hours free hire each day, then £1 per hour after.
The bikes are located at the Farmstead, to the right hand side of the entrance. Each bike provides a comfortable ride experience with 3-speed internal gearing, dynamo-charged lighting, integral braking, puncture resistant tyres and a front carrier for loads up to 5kg. The bikes are sturdy, well-built, and good for road and light trails, including some of our Linmere Loop trails (find our more here).
The Linmere scheme is part of a wider pilot-test across Bidwell and Houghton Regis, offering residents access to 15 bikes in total. If the scheme proves workable, this will see App-Bike rolled out across a wider region.
To join the scheme, you’ll need to download the ‘App-Bike’ app to your smartphone (from the App Store or Google Play) and email your proof of address to info@activecyclingprojects.com to access discounted rates for Linmere residents. For an instructional video, use your smartphone to scan the QR code below.
If you want this cycle hire scheme to get a permanent place in Linmere, we hope you make use of the bikes and enjoy the benefits of cycling around Linmere without the costs of buying your own bike!
