Lighting up the skies around Linmere

Fireworks Weekend is here and despite Storm Ciarán doing its worst this week, the forecast for the weekend isn’t too unsociable, with Friday and Sunday nights looking most likely to dodge the rain. There are many displays within easy reach of Linmere, however we’ve listed 4 fireworks displays that come highly recommended, some with free admission, covering Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Wrap-up, put on some sensible footwear, grab the torch and find a safe position to enjoy, what is always, a special night out. Remember, there’s no such thing as the wrong weather, there’s always the wrong clothes. Keep an eye on the forecast, as it remains changeable. Enjoy and stay safe!

HOUGHTON REGIS FIREWORKS – SUNDAY 5 November 5:30PM

Windsor Drive, 1.5 miles – 4 minutes’ drive time / 28 mins walk from the Farmstead

This is our local, free display and being so close to Linmere, it’s not going to take much effort to get there. Houghton Regis Town Council are keen to invite Linmere residents, so we’ve listed this one first.

The event’s being delivered by Fantastic Fireworks, one of the leading fireworks specialists in the UK, so you can expect a sky full of exploding light, with a thunderous finale.

Located at Windsor Drive, parking is very limited, with guests advised to use Houghton Regis Leisure Centre or Houghton Hall Park visitor’s car park. Being only 1.5 miles from the Farmstead, it’s walkable in under 30 minutes.

Free – no admission fees apply.

AMPTHILL PARK DISPLAY – AMPTHILL PARK, FRIDAY 3 NOVEMBER 6PM

10 miles – 17 minutes’ drive time from the Farmstead

This claims to be Bedfordshire’s biggest fireworks display, hosted in Ampthill’s 160-acre parkland. With a funfair, food stands and live entertainment, all profits are distributed to local charities and staffed by volunteers and residents. The programme starts at 6pm, with the traditional lighting of the Beacon at 7:30pm, before the display begins at 8pm.

Ampthill’s a worthy visit, with lots of old-world charm and ancient history. Being on a Friday night, it’s unlikely any of us will be able to make the trip in daylight to enjoy what the unique town has to offer. However, being on Friday night, it’s a good option for those busy over the rest of the weekend.

Charges apply to attend the event, with adults at £10 and Children at £4. Tickets need to be bought in advance, using the link here. Car parking is provided at £5 per car, payable on arrival, with visitors strongly recommended to arrive early.

LUTON FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR – SATURDAY 4 November 6:30pm

6.5 miles – 20 minutes’ drive time from the Farmstead

A large and free fireworks display, staged in Pope’s Meadow, close to Luton Town Centre. This large public display is accompanied with a fairground and a good choice of food and refreshments. The programme starts at 7pm, with the display following at 7:30pm. With free access, larger crowds are expected, with organisers advising visitors to arrive no later than 6:30pm.

Free – no admission fees apply.

VERULAMIUM PARK ST ALBANS – SATURDAY 4 NOVEMBER 6PM

15 miles – 22 minutes’ drive time from the Farmstead

A little further afield, but worth the journey to see St Albans, even if the weather doesn’t play ball. This is a big display, delivered by Fantastic Fireworks again, set in the ancient surrounds of Verulamium Park,

Gates open at 6pm, with the display set to follow at 7pm. With so much to see in St Albans, it’s worth setting off early and take in the city, before heading down to the display. With so much to see around St Albans, our advice is to arrive earlier in the day to find a parking space and enjoy an afternoon of historic sights close to the park.

Admission fees apply, with adults at £10 and Children at £5 and visitors are advised to purchase tickets before the event with early bird discounts, on the link here.
